Defense Freedom of Information Policy Office (DFOIPO)

The Defense Freedom of Information Policy Office (DFOIPO), is responsible for implementation of FOIA policy throughout the DoD; it handles litigation for the Office of the Secretary of Defense and Joint Staff (OSD/JS) FOIA Requester Service Center as well as helps other FOIA offices with their litigation and adjudicates FOIA appeals for OSD/JS and the Combatant Commands. DFOIPO prepares the Annual and Chief FOIA Officer Reports for all of DoD. DFOIPO operates a FOIA Public Liaison Service and a FOIA Hotline regarding FOIA matters. DFOIPO also offers DoD wide training.

The Office of the Secretary of Defense and Joint Staff FOIA Requester Service Center (OSD/JS) handles FOIA requests to the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Joint Staff and certain Field Agencies of the Department of Defense. The Office of the Secretary of Defense and Joint Staff Privacy Office implements the Privacy Act Program and provides guidance and direction as it relates to the Privacy Act to the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the Joint Staff and component activities.
