| Welcome to all who are planning to attend the 46th
Annual Military Librarian's Workshop at the Omni Richmond in Richmond,
Virginia, hosted by the Marine Corps University's Breckinridge Library.
This year's theme, Leading for Today While Planning for Tomorrow,
was chosen because leading and planning are the heart of what we
do everyday, whether we are conscious of it or not. The goal for
this workshop is to make us all more aware of how we are leading
now and planning for the future, as well as give us new ideas on
how we can increase our leadership skills and develop our planning
abilities.
We have a lively and interesting group of speakers and facilitators,
spearheaded by Patricia Wagner of Pattern Research, who will spend
each morning working with us on various aspects of leadership
and planning. Please see the agenda for further details on the
morning sessions. In the afternoon sessions we will hear from:
- Michael Kull, Executive Producer of AMPLIFI, Knowledge Media
Solutions, who will speak to us about Storytelling as Knowledge
Management.
- Joe Ryan, Director of Ryan Information Management and project
coordinator for the US Institute for Museum and Library Services
(IMLS) study on library statistics and performance measures for
the networked environment, who will speak on issues and opportunities
in E-Measurement.
- Sylvia Piggott, Senior Consultant in the Information Solutions
Group of the World Bank, who will talk on Lessons Learned about
Strategic Planning in a Global Environment.
- Andrea Stewart, Assistant University Librarian for Administration,
Development and Personnel at the Gelman Library of The George
Washington University, who will also speak on Strategic Planning
Lessons Learned.
In addition, we will have a number of familiar names from the
Military and Federal Library Community who will update us on activities
in their areas and share some of their experiences and lessons
learned.
The Omni Hotel is in the Shockoe Slip restaurant, shopping and
nightclub district of downtown Richmond, so you should find plenty
to occupy your free time. On Wednesday evening, we will have a
banquet in the hotel with a special guest, a native born Virginian
noted for his great mind and fine conversation.
I am pleased to announce that this year you will be able to
use credit cards to register for the Workshop. Please check out
the registration page for details.
I look forward to seeing you all in Richmond and hope that you
will find the MLW experience to be educational, enjoyable, and
rejuvenating.
