Director, Defense Research
& Engineering (DDR&E) (The DDR&E is the principal staff
advisor for research and engineering (R&E) matters to the Under
Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics (USD(AT&L))
and the Secretary and Deputy Secretary of Defense. Among the DDR&E's
responsibilities is: develop the strategies and supporting plans that
exploit technology and prototypes to respond to the needs of the DoD
and ensure U.S. technological superiority, identify critical technology
areas, manage DoD's R&E Programs and actively direct funding levels

Air Force
Air Force Research Laboratory
(The AFRL is composed of nine technology directorates located throughout
the United States, the Air Force
Office of Scientific Research - AFRL manager of basic research,
and the headquarters staff. It is responsible for planning and executing
the Air Force's entire science and technology budget of nearly $1.3
billion including: basic research (6.1), applied research (6.2), and
advanced technology development (6.3), and an additional $1.1 billion
from AFRL customers.)

Army Research Laboratory Technology
Transfer Office (The Domestic
Technology Transfer (DTT) allows the R&D resources of the Army
to be coupled with those of private businesses, academia, and local/state
governments for the joint development of technologies useful to both
the Army and the private sector. Small
Business Innovation Research (SBIR) involves contracting with small
businesses for high-quality research or R&D proposals of innovative
concepts, especially R&D that shows high potential for commercial

Office of Naval Research (The
ONR coordinates, executes, and promotes the science and technology programs
of the United States Navy and Marine Corps through universities, government
laboratories, and nonprofit and for-profit organizations. It is composed
of six technical departments, the Naval
