DoD IR&D Program

The Department of Defense (DoD) Independent Research and Development (IR&D) and Bid and Proposal (B&P) Program (commonly referred to as the "IR&D Program") promotes communications between the DoD and industry to increase the effectiveness of independent research and development activities and to ensure effective use of IR&D accomplishments to meet defense needs. The IR&D Program encourages IR&D activities of interest to the DoD by promoting:

  • Communications from the DoD to industry regarding DoD R&D plans and activities and DoD technological needs to assist industry in implementing their IR&D projects (Go to Related Web Sites for information on these subjects.);

  • Communications from industry to the DoD about contractor IR&D plans and accomplishments to increase DoD awareness and use of IR&D accomplishments to meet defense needs (Go to IR&D Database for information about submitting IR&D information to the DoD database or accessing information in the database.); and

  • DoD feedback to industry regarding the effectiveness of IR&D activities in meeting defense needs.
