Welcome to the Open Source Resources Page for the Directed Energy Weapons Interest Area

This section of the DTIC Web site is designed to provide information on one of the many communities of interest served by DTIC.

Directed-energy weapons are generally considered to be weapons which emit energy in an aimed direction without the means of a projectile. The energy can be in various forms: laser, microwave, particle beam or sound.

Samples of current DTIC documents dealing with Directed Energy Weapons issues are listed below. Other resources both within DoD and external to the Department can be found in the menu to the right.

  • PATRIOT ISR: The Need for Snake-Eaters PATRIOT ISR operations will bring an enormous capability to air defense units. The information passed along by ISR teams will be common air defense specific information that is organic to the unit and will allow for an effective decision by the commander in a short amount of time.
  • Simulated E-Bomb Effects on Electronically Equipped Targets This thesis investigates possible effects of a hypothetically designed HEMP-like weapon, an e-bomb, on electronically equipped target systems.
  • The Active Denial System. A Revolutionary, Non-lethal Weapon for Today's Battlefield Research efforts to advance the types and efficacy of non-lethal weapons available to our warfighters is producing novel capabilities. One such capability is the Active Denial System (ADS). ADS can provide our troops a capability they currently do not have, the ability to reach out and engage potential adversaries at distances well beyond small arms range, and in a safe, effective, and non-lethal manner.

This section provides information about this topic based on questions and issues raised by DTIC customers, but it does not cover all of the information available in DTIC. To view all the information available through DTIC, you must first register.
