Reference Linking

Reference linking capitalizes on the ability of electronic information resources to point to each other. Authors frequently refer to reports and articles used in the development of their technical report. This creates the opportunity to electronically link DTIC's records of technical reports based on the authors' references. Reference linking will support navigation from a report's citations to the cited reports if they are in the DTIC database. Reference linking will provide an alternative way to query the database and discover new information based on linked citations.

DTIC also anticipates authors will be incentivized to contribute reports to DTIC if they can verify other researchers are using and citing the work they contribute to DTIC.

The objective capabilities will enable users to answer the following questions.

1. I have read report XYZ and found it useful. I would like to obtain report ABC which report XYZ references in its bibliography. Does DTIC make report ABC available and if so, how?

2. I have read report XYZ and found it useful; or, I wrote report XYZ and am looking for colleagues with similar research interests. Are there reports in the DTIC collection that have referenced report XYZ in their bibliographies?
