Abstract : This report contains an evaluation of the need for lands to be acquired for habitat restoration for fish and wildlife purposes to offset the impact of construction of the First Phase of the Sacramento River Bank Protection Project, California. It was prepared pursuant to Section 3(c) of the Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act (16 U.S.C. 661 et seq) which requires that before properties are acquired for wildlife conservation and development purposes, the probable extent of such acquisition is to be set forth, along with other data necessary for project authorization, in a report submitted to the Congress by the construction agency. Construction of the first phase of the project was authorized in 1960 and provides that costs will be shared 2/3 Federal and 1/3 non-Federal with operation and maintenance of the completed works a non-Federal responsibility. The Reclamation Board of the State of California is the non-Federal sponsor, providing the required local assurances for the project.
