Abstract : The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) conducts security cooperation programs that support U.S. national security policy on the continent of Africa. The challenges facing this command are vast, but none are any greater than the logistical challenges that exist for this combatant command. One initiative to aid with these challenges that is underway by the U.S. AFRICOM J4 staff is the Adaptive Logistics Network (ALN). The ALN can bridge the capabilities gap. The ALN emphasizes and enables close collaboration, cooperation, and mutual support among willing partners from numerous organizations. These organizations include the Department of Defense (DoD), other U.S. government agencies, allied nations, commercial firms, contractors and vendors, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), and various other organizations that share common objectives. The ALN suggests that potential solutions to African logistics challenges begin at the lowest level possible before U.S. forces are called in to adjudicate. The purpose of this paper is to identify organizations that can offer services in construction, transportation, maintenance, water, and fuel and can be entered into the ALN database. These present-day organizations and resources will help support U.S. strategic interests as AFRICOM continues to move forward in building and strengthening partnerships within the Sub-Saharan region.
