Abstract : We report methods used to synthesize and prepare Li12Si7 and Li22Si5 for nanoindentation testing. The alloys were made by heating lithium granules with silicon powder. X-ray diffraction, inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry, and optical microscopy confirmed that the alloys were single phase. Optical microscopy showed that the alloys were fully dense.
