Abstract : Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) 000 tasked Navy Experimental Diving Unit (NEDU) to assess the effectiveness of an experimental diver heater being developed in partnership by Duke University and NSWC Panama City under sponsorship of the Office of Naval Research.1 This proof of concept study was designed to investigate whether a prototype hydrogen catalytic heater, when used in conjunction with a recently developed integrated closed-circuit tube suit-dry suit thermal protection garment, was capable of satisfying the thermal protection needs of up to six combat swimmers in long-duration cold water missions.
