Abstract : The objective of the study conducted under this grant is to develop effective computational strategies for: a) assessing the sensitivity of the dynamic failure and damage of metallic structures to variations in both the microstructure and macrostructure material parameters; and, b) incorporating the uncertainties in material parameters in the prediction of response and damage of these structures. The sensitivity coefficients, which are the derivatives of the various structural response quantities with respect to the material parameters, are evaluated by using the direct differentiation method.
