Abstract : This report outlines the mechanical, optical and microscopic techniques available in the Physics and Chemistry of Solids (POS) Fracture and Shock Physics group, Cavendish Laboratory, Cambridge, for studying the impact and high strain rate properties of materials. Results are presented for high strain rate stress-strain response of PBX, with effect of particle size and temperature. Results are presented on studies of ultrafines and conventional PETN and RDX.
