Abstract : The U.S. has long used a Global Contingency Corps (GCC) concept to protect and pursue its interests worldwide. The GCC has been used many times in the past, most recently in Grenada, Panama, and Desert Shield/Storm. The XVIIIth Airborne Corps has filled this role very admirably to date. However, their initial employment in Saudi Arabia as a light force on short notice with Reserve Component soldiers raises some questions. They were deployed in open country against invasion forces that would have been highly mechanized. That could have resulted in a disaster. It was also necessary to call up reserve units to provide requisite support to them. Our world is rapidly changing and it's time to reassess the composition nad capability of the GCC. this paper applies the basic formula of METT-T to gain some insight into the future force structure of the GCC. Near term projected scenarios are used to accomplish this.
