Abstract : This graduate thesis covers the Franco-German Relationship and its impact on the security of Western Europe from post WWII to present. A chapter is devoted to the relationships role as a catalyst in the organization of the Schuman Plan, Pleven Plan (EDC), and WEU. The thesis then concentrates on defense cooperation between the two countries since their 1982 Defense Initiative. The European community (EC), NATO, and Western European Union (WEU) are used as the principal vehicles by which the Franco-German relationship and its role in Western European security is presented.
