Abstract : This report investigates the use of the centrifuge for studying various topics in rock mechanics. The report has three chapters. The first chapter deals with scaling relations developed specifically for rock and establishes requirements that must be satisfied for model-prototype similitude. The second chapter details various areas in rock mechanics which can be profitably investigated using the centrifuge. In the third chapter, tests that will provide information on these areas will be proposed and any problems likely to be encountered will be examined. Keywords: Rock mechanics; Scaling relationships; Centrifuge modeling; Small-scale modeling.
