Abstract : An image processing language in the form of an algebra is developed to serve as a framework to express image and signal processing algorithms. The operators in the algebra can be expressed in terms of a set of seven primative, or basis operators which has been induced from the underlying algebraic structures of the domain and range spaces. Whereas, the inducement methodology is rather general and its application is not restricted to image processing, the bulk of the report is concentrated on the development of a digital image algebra. In terms of this algebra, operators such as dilation and convolution, which are often defined pointwise, possess closed-form expressions as strings of the seven basic operations. A structured approach to the development of intelligent weapon systems is presented herein with an emphasis in automated image processing algorithm development. These artificial intelligence concepts are implemented in PASCAL.
