Abstract : The n-CdS flatband potential in the solid-state cell n-CdS/Nafion 117 + redox species/Au was shifted progressively in a cathode directed upon the introduction of FeCp2, FeCp2 + Ru(bpy)3(2+) into the SPE. This cathodic shift was consistent with that for the oxidation potentials seen for Ru(bpy)3(2+) (E1/2 = 1.25V vs SCE) and FeCp2 (0.285V vs SCE) in acetonitrile. Such perturbations of semiconductor properties can be expected to form the basis of a detector technology when the semiconductor/SPE junction is exposed to selected chemical species.
