Abstract : This report reviews the analytical chemistry of hydrazine and its methyl derivatives. The purpose is to develop chemical approaches for synthesis of hydrazine vapor specific coatings for chemical microsensors. Section 1 discusses basic hydrazine chemistry relevant to the analytical reactions presented in subsequent sections and to the coating requirements for chemical microsensors. Sections 2, 3, 4 and 5 discuss specific analytical hydrazine reactions which have been classified as aldehyde or ketone condensations, aromatic nucleophilic displacements, organic compound or metal ion reductions and organic dye interactions respectively. Section 6 presents chemical approaches suggested for microsensor coatings.
