Abstract : Adenyl cyclase activity was determined in isolated mouse liver cell membranes subsequent to incubation with S. typhosa endotoxin and/or epinephrine. Enzyme activity was stimulated twofold by endotoxin and threefold by epinephrine. When used together, endotoxin blocked epinephrine stimulation of enzyme activity. Sodium fluoride activation of adenyl cyclase was also inhibited by endotoxin. This finding supports the hypothesis that endotoxin inhibition of epinephrine induction of adenyl cyclase involves interruption of the phospholipid moiety of the enzyme complex. (Author)
