Abstract : By tilting a statocyst preparation with a receptor cell impaled by a microelectrode, depolarizing receptor potentials, action potentials and increased membrane conductance are observed during the application of the natural stimulus. The conductance increase has an equilibrium potential near - 20 mV. Fluctuations in cell membrane potential increase in amplitude as the preparation is tilted in an excitatory direction.
