Abstract : The on-going research is to test the central hypothesis that post-SCI administration of the catalytic oxidoreductant BuOE will inhibit neuropathic pain after SCI. The research in years1 and 2 focused on the goal of aims 1 and 2, to test the hypothesis that post-SCI administration of BuOE decreases inflammation and ROS activation in a rat and mouse model of SCI. The main finding of our work in this year was to evaluate the dose-effect curve of post-SCI administration of BuOE on the outcomes listed above. Our data from on-going experiments indicate that the dose of 0.2mg/kg BuOE was most effective in reducing inflammation and ROS activation acutely post-SCI in rats and mice. On-going experiments will evaluate additional outcome measures and behavioral outcomes in the subsequent year.
