Abstract : An experimental method for determining local cerebral blood flow (CBF1) within the area of supply of a major cerebral artery is described, using xenon-133. Utilizing anatomic-radiologic correlates, the territories of the anterior and middle cerebral arteries were defined in the rhesus monkey. Highly focused collimation was used so that isoresponse patterns allowed detection of activity from each territory separately. Compton scatter contributed only 10 percent to the total activity seen. CBF1 values were consistently and significantly higher in the anterior than in the middle cerebral distribution. The significance of these findings is discussed. (Author)
