Abstract : Practice has shown that the overwhelming majority of heavily loaded roller bearings failing due to contact chipping are first damaged at the edges of the rollers. The reason for the concentration of contact stresses at the edges of cylindrical rollers is the edge effect, a sharp increase in pressure at the rectangular end of a part in contact with another, longer part, as well as skewing of circles and rollers arising primarily due to inaccuracy in bearing manufacture. A new form of generatrix is suggested produced with large radius camber and elements decreasing the influence of the edge effect, considering the actual operating conditions of circles and rollers and providing increased bearing durability in bearings with rollers having rectangular generatrix.
