Abstract : A three-day workshop was convened for the purpose of reviewing the current dental treatment program for Navy and Marine Corps recruits, to define problem areas, to identify studies which are in need of further research and development, and to make recommendations for providing better dental health to Naval personnel. The tropics assigned to the four study groups were as follows: A. 'Examination, Diagnosis, Classification and Treatment Priorities'; B. 'Management Principles Related to Facility Planning, Recruit Scheduling, Follow-up, Referral, Controlled Distribution and Dental Holding Companies'; C. 'Prevention and Treatment Methods'; D. 'Personnel Factors.' Many of the problems identified in the Workshop were related to the overwhelming dental treatment needs of recruits and the lack of manpower resources to provide treatment, especially operative dentistry. It was generally agreed by the Workshop that all essential dental treatment should be accomplished during recruit training. (Author)
