Abstract : Phase equilibria in isothermal sections of the ternary Ti-Si-C, Nb-Si-C, and W-Si-C systems were established with X-ray films employing the Debye-Scherrer powder technique. The Ti-Si-C system contains a new ternary phase near the composition Ti(2)SiC; the Nb-Si-C system also has a known ternary phase near the Nb-Si binary, whereas the W-Si-C system exhibits no ternary compounds. With the exception of the Ti5Si3 phase, the mutual solubilities of the binary carbide and silicide phases are exceedingly small or nonexistent. The results of these investigations are compared with other previous investigations. (Author)
