DoD Reference Documents DoD Directive 3216.1, “Use of Laboratory Animals in DoD Programs” DoD 1995 Policy Memorandum describes additional requirements and existing policy clarification for intramural and extramural contractor proposals using animals in research, education, testing, or training. DoD Standard Animal Use Protocol Format, DoD organizations must use this protocol format when proposing to use animals covered under DoD Directive 3216.1. Non-DoD organizations being sponsored by DoD shall either use the DoD Standard Protocol format or provide all pertinent information contained in the DoD Standard Protocol. DoD Semi-Annual Program/Facility Inspection Checklist (DD Form 2856) Other Federal Reference Documents Animal Welfare Act and Regulations Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, developed by the Institute of Laboratory Animal Resources, National Academy of Sciences USDA Animal Care Policy Manual, developed to help interpret the Animal Welfare Act and regulations. DoD Biomedical Research Database (BRD) The DoD Biomedical Research Database (BRD) has been developed from biomedical research, development, testing, and evaluation, or training programs being federally funded since Fiscal Year 1998. The areas of research, testing and training include, but are not limited to, the following: infectious diseases, biological hazards, toxicology, medical chemical defense, medical biological defense, clinical medicine, clinical surgery, physical protection, training, graduate medical education and instruction. The database information is updated annually. It is a searchable database of DHHS-funded biomedical research projects. Click here to use the CRISP Database All reports are in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. ICCVAM promotes the scientific validation and regulatory acceptance of toxicological test methods that more accurately assess the safety or hazards of chemicals and products and that reduce, refine (decrease or eliminate pain and distress), and/or replace animal use. Scientific Advisory Committee on Alternative Toxicological Methods (SACATM) is a federally advisory committee chartered in response to the ICCVAM Authorization Act of 2000. SACATM provides advice on priorities and activities related to the development, validation, scientific review, regulatory acceptance, implementation, and national and international harmonization of new, revised, and alternative toxicological test methods. |
