Pursues and supports all aspects of technology necessary for force deployment, protection, and sustainment, including logistics planning, amphibious assault and logistics- over-over-the-shore, base and in-theater infrastructure, and protective structures in the field and at installations and bases.

Technical Area Descriptions

  • Conventional Facilities - Develop technologies to modernize and more efficiently operate DoD's aging infrastructure to effectively support Power Projection and enhanced quality of life.
  • Survivability & Protective Structures - Force protection, from foxholes to fixed facilities, against weapon threats ranging from small arms to terrorist weapons through advanced conventional weapons with multispectral sensors.

  • Airfields and Pavements - Provides DOD with significantly enhanced capabilities to design, construct, and maintain reliable airfield pavements to support force projection for tactical and operational missions.
  • Sustainment Engineering - Develop/demonstrate mission-critical engineering capabilities required to effectively shape the operational and tactical battlespace worldwide during DoD force projection from CONUS.
  • Firefighting - Provides DOD with significantly enhanced capabilities to provide passive and active protection of critical weapons systems against peacetime, unpredicted contingency, and wartime fire potentials and threats.
  • Critical Airbase Facilities & Recovery - Provides technologies for wartime contingencies and modernization of bare base infrastructure including airmobile shelters and utilities. Payoffs are reduced airlift, response time, manpower, and cost for execution of Air Expeditionary Force (AEF) Operations.
  • Waterfront Facilities/Operations - Supports the DoD missions for improved logistics for Naval and Marine Forces and use of affordable facilities infrastructure.
